Bavarian State Minister visits logistics center of BHS Global Logistics

19.07.2023

Recently, Albert Füracker, Bavarian State Minister of Finance and Homeland Affairs, visited the logistics center of BHS Global Logistics in the industrial area »Weberschlag« in Weiherhammer.

Mr. Alexander Walberer, Managing Director, was pleased to welcome the Minister and selected politicians from the region at the logistics center of BHS Global Logistics. They came on a very special date: The technical go-live of the logistics center took place on this very day.

After a short speech by Alexander Walberer and speeches by Mr. Füracker as well as Mr. Lars & Christian Engel (BHS Corrugated), the guests were able to get a first-hand impression of the logistics center during a guided tour.

Only fourteen months after the groundbreaking ceremony in September 2021, the construction project with an investment volume of approx. 38 million euros was completed in November 2022. The logistics center with a floor space of 26,500 m² as well as a office building (3 floors) with 865 m² was built by the company GOLDBECK.

For the realization, special attention was paid to ecological and sustainable aspects. For example, an air-to-water heat pump is used to supply heating in the building. The entire hall roof is currently being fitted with photovoltaic modules in order to use solar energy to generate electricity. There will also be electric car charging stations in the employee parking lot.

During the visit of the automated small parts warehouse (AKL) with currently more than 34,000 container locations, the guests were then able to see for themselves the current Go Live, the innovative technologies as well as digitalization. Keywords such as "automated conveyor technology" or "pick by robot" were mentioned here (cooperation partner IGZ, Falkenberg).

BHS Global Logistics offers an enormous development opportunity for the region. In the long term, the logistics center will develop into a extensive logistics park including new business areas - this is the management's declared goal. The guests present were impressed by what they saw and praised the company's commitment to the Upper Palatinate region.
